Nostalgic Gossip Girl Outfits You Can Recreate This Thanksgiving
Corinne: Serena Vanderwoodsen
When I initially began planning my rendition of Serena's Thanksgiving outfit, I immediately thought of a skirt I have similar to the one Serena was wearing. They are both a mustard yellow color, the only difference is that mine is denim and has a zipper down the center front. After securing the skirt, I moved on to picking out a blouse. I ended up piecing this outfit together at home and realized I did not have a maroon shirt or satin blouse that is similar to Serena's, so, I had to modify it. I decided to go with a white embroidered linen top and, my favorite piece, a cherry-red cloth petticoat. Although the top I wore was not maroon, I thought the red petticoat was a good alternative. I actually thrifted this coat a while back, imagining myself walking up and down the streets of Manhattan in the winter. What better (New York City) style icon to recreate wearing this coat than the one and only Serena Vanderwoodesen? Overall, I ended up having a lot of fun with this project; the particular outfit I was recreating is definitely not my usual style, but I loved thinking out of the box and adding my own twist to this thanksgiving fit.
James: Nate Archibald
To recreate Nate's preppy style, I went with a classic v-neck sweater from Brooks Brothers in a charcoal gray. I had to modify the outfit a bit and go with a similar flannel in royal blue and black; it has a similar effect, and I truly prefer cotton over performance fabrics for my button-downs. I finished off the look with some classic khakis in a straight cut, some Bass Weejuns, and a dive watch. I find these traditional looks refined and timeless - most of these pieces would be considered vintage already, and I think they'll continue to age well.
Liz: Blair Waldorf
When faced with Blair Waldorf's style, I was at a loss because prep is not my forte. Therefore, this inspired outfit was a challenge for me, living out of a suitcase at my extended family's house. The key takeaways from Blair's outfit were the browns as well as the preppy and luxurious layering. Luckily I have the perfect item for an outside layer, my faux fur jacket. To continue with the browns I added a tan knit top for variations within the browns. My next thought was to go with my medium brown maxi skirt that has a waistband like a pair of pants, but I only brought one pair of real bottoms with me so the vintage lee jeans must do. I think the lace heart adds a nice detail that references Blair's detailed lace tights. Overall I am happy with how it came out considering the wardrobe I had to choose from.
Elena: Jenny Humphrey
Upon seeing the image I was going to recreate I immediately knew the flannel was going to be essential to the outfit. While I don't have an exact color match, I figured a dark red gave off a similar vibe. I layered this with neutral-colored garments, just like Jenny did, and added the modern touch of a tote bag instead of a purse. The tall boots I wore were black not silver, but I'm overall happy with the recreation even though a lot of the specific elements are a little different. I'm definitely into this flannel with thigh-highs look and will probably recreate it, tweaked to match my style more.
