Spring/Summer 2022 Style Essentials

Style Essentials Spring / Summer 2022

Chic Sunnies

Having a pair of go-to sunnies is essential for spring and summer. Our personal favorite is the classic Round Metal Rayban; they are timeless. But, if you’re looking to spice up your 2022 fit, we suggest purchasing a pair of cat-eye or tortoise-shaped sunglasses such as Akilas Logos sunnies.

Slipdress

If not already, a slip dress is a closet staple article for the upcoming seasons. The best thing about slip dresses is they can be dressed up with a pair of heels, or worn more casually with a denim jacket or T-shirt beneath. If you’re looking for a long slip dress, check out Quince. Not only does it come in an array of colors, but it is 100% silk, making it breathable for those hotter months. If you’re looking for a shorter slip dress, try out Silk Maison’s Lounge Cowl Neck Mini Silk Slip Dress. This dress also comes in a variety of colors and patterns and is 100% mulberry silk.

Denim Shorts

Summer 2021 saw this trend, and we expect summer 2022 to follow suit, this trend being high-waisted denim shorts with a longer inseam. A great everyday option are the A-line denim shorts from Everlane. They’re fashionable, functional, don’t break the bank, and better yet, are made of 100% organic cotton.

Colorful Crossbody Bag

Spring and summer is a cheerful time so make sure your accessories do it justice. We’ve recently been a fan of wearing whites and beiges with a bright pop of color whether that be my shoes, jewelry, or purse. One bag that we’ve had our eye on is the Syl Bag by Brandon Blackwood. This designer creates beautiful bags, some nearing $1,000, yet makes a point to have more affordable purses as well. We love this bag’s hot pink color as well as its ability to be used as an everyday purse due to its size and shape.

Huaraches

Huaraches are a style of Mexican loafers woven from leather, often painted in vivid colors. We think of huaraches as loafer-adjacent, and an especially good choice for spring and summer, given their enhanced breathability. We love this pair from Nisolo, and there are plenty you can purchase from independent artisans from Etsy, like this pair.

Jorts

Jorts have gotten a lot of hate in the past, but we here at TU Fashion have decided to revive them this summer. We think that with the right tailoring and styling, jorts could have a major comeback. We favor shorter inseams and a baggier leg, but the most important aspect of jorts is the hem. In our opinion, jorts look best un-hemmed, left to fray as you live in them.

Of course, you can buy your jorts pre-made, but if you're looking for a fun summer project, you should consider cutting your own. Just find a pair of jeans with a fit you like, and cut to your desired length (and maybe use a measuring tape). Good luck! (P.S. if you try this, DM pictures to our Instagram @tulaneufashion !)

Simple Button-Ups

The last two summers have seen the rise of the Cuban-collared shirt. While Cuban collars will likely remain in style, we suggest exploring other patterns and cuts as well. Perte D'ego has fantastic patterns in this category.

The current trend in men's short-sleeve button-downs is a cropped silhouette and a looser fit, which pairs nicely with the trend of slimmer, high-waisted trousers. We recommend these from Everlane.
