Revamp, Refresh, and Break The Style Rut
Is your wardrobe feeling a bit dull these days? Has your beloved outfit lost its charm? Well, the secret to adding some excitement might just be in the power of stepping out of your comfort zone! If you want to revamp your favorite outfit by accessorizing differently or discover where to source one-of-a-kind items, read on for some ideas that might just turn into your favorite inspiration.
Jewelry is an excellent starting point. We all have some necklaces, bracelets, and rings, but I've discovered the art of making statements with my jewelry. That's why I seek out unique pieces. When it comes to necklaces, I gravitate towards bold and chunky pieces. They're perfect for layering with simpler jewelry or wearing on their own! As for bracelets, I've been obsessing over bangles lately. I spent the entire summer collecting bangles of various sizes and colors. Bangles complement any outfit, and the delightful clinking sound they make when layered is just a bonus. While they may not be the most practical for classes, they're the perfect accessory for any other occasion! When it comes to rings, I lean towards funky and unique designs. Shell rings are adorable for the summer, and I also adore spoon rings. These rings are crafted from delicate metal spoons twisted to fit your finger, and you can often find them in antique stores for a classy and vintage touch. In my experience, the best places to find distinctive jewelry pieces are antique stores or online resale sites like Depop or Mercari.
Another addition that I adore to compliment jewelry is ribbon and lace trim. Trim effortlessly adds a touch of elegance to any outfit. I tie lace around my purses and bags, giving them a flowy, mermaid-like appearance, as well as around my neck or in my hair. When using lace trim or ribbon as a choker, I tie it towards the front of my neck so that strands drape gracefully down my chest, creating a dreamy and whimsical look. Ribbon can also be fashioned into charming bows for your hair. I usually find trim at antique stores, but you can also discover beautiful options at craft stores like Michaels.
Last but certainly not least, I highly recommend trying out low-rise bottoms! While low-rise shorts were popular in the 1960s and 1970s, they've made a stylish comeback in 2023. Low-rise shorts provide more space for your top to shine! If you have a longer tube or tank top that you're eager to flaunt, low-rise shorts offer the perfect opportunity for your top to take center stage. When it comes to finding low-rise shorts, my go-to places are local thrift stores. In New Orleans, my favorite stores for unique finds are Red, White, and Blue, and Salvation Army. While the low-rise trend might not everyone’s top pick, it’s definitely worth a try, and while you’re searching, you might find a hidden gem.
When browsing resale sites, be sure to be specific in your searches! For example, look for "chunky heart necklace" or "funky western belt." The more descriptive you are, the better your chances of finding what you're looking for!I enjoy accessorizing and trying something new because it feels like playing dress up. It gives my outfit life and my clothes a new purpose. Reinvent the potential your clothes have and augment any look!
