"Fashion Is All Around"

If you’re an avid lover of books or romance movies like me, then you’re aware of the iconic film “Love Actually”, especially one part. If you’re not, allow me to introduce you to words of pure emotion.

“I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always their father and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, and old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love is all around.”

Sitting here in the airport, this quote has radiated with me more than ever. I wholeheartedly believe in it. The airport has always been seen as a chaotic place. Suitcases, security, running, boarding passes, hours of impatient waiting. However, if you look at it. Just stop and stare for a moment. You’ll notice joy, sadness, anticipation, laughter, tears. You’ll see it in the faces of loved ones waving each other goodbye. Friends hugging excitedly. Fashion is embedded in the outfits of every single individual. If you’re not in the airport gazing, then as you read, I’ll show you that “fashion and love are all around”

Home Sweet Home Love: The first stop is my hometown in southern Louisiana. As my fellow Cajuns are boarding for the bright lights of Dallas. The fashion is popping right and left. Cowboy boots swag and LSU hats galore; hometown pride is bursting in this little airport. Isn’t that special? An individual brings their love for a place, in the form of clothing, into another location. Like a little kid showing off their parents’ occupations. While we don’t know it, we carry our personalities and pride in the outfits we pick. Especially in airports.

Love For Our Neighbors: A continent away now, the Europeans sure can dress! Layered in black coats and sophisticated pants; I’m definitely not in the United States anymore. Sweatpants are the things of the past (well…. for the next four months)! As I analyze my surroundings, I see grandparents excitedly waiting to see their children, vacationers embarking on a new adventure, and me tackling a new chapter in my life!

Love surrounds us all, especially in airports. It brings fashion into the scene of happiness. With love, the next time you’re traveling, look for mundane things like a fashion choice or a family hug. It can brighten your day!

Love,
