The Greenwood Experience.

Rooted in Miami and New Orleans, Greenwood Skate brands itself as a fusion of the collective spirit of both cities, drawing from local fashion, music, and art. This concept comes to life in their events, designed to build community through fashion. In December, Greenwood teamed up with TU Fashion to bring one of these immersive experiences to life: The Greenwood Experience. It was a space where fashion and culture came together, drawing people in for the love of style.

The Jeans

The event’s core mission was to create a fun, unforgettable night while promoting the Greenwood brand. The event featured a lineup of talents including New York-based DJ Tolga and local DJs Loof and Adrej Anderson. Mati Silva, creator of the brand, organized the event, bringing the Tulane community together for the debut of their new jeans. These unique jeans, featuring the Greenwood logo on the side, took inspiration from overalls with a design that gives off an “undone overalls” vibe.
Mati shared, “A lot of it came down to research. I took a bunch of my favorite jeans and spent a lot of time figuring out exactly what I liked about them and why. Things like how they fit, the color, materials and fabric, stitching, and proportions, etc. I then made a sort of Frankenstein pair of jeans combining all these aspects. I used the Frankenstein jeans to make digital mock-ups so that all the elements from the different jeans would combine in a cohesive way.”
The experience itself was simple. The venue hosted an outdoor pop-up where attendees could check out the jeans firsthand while guests were seen sporting Greenwood staples, and the music filled the air. But as midnight struck, the night truly began. A “guerilla” fashion show, channeling our inner Jenny from Gossip Girl, kicked off. The lights went down, and out came the models. Each styling the jeans in their way, showcasing looks ranging from sporty chic to sophisticated elegance.

The Music

Marco Sajovec (Adrej Anderson) took a moment to share his creative journey. “It’s far from easy,” he said, describing the pressure of gigs that sometimes prioritize influence over sound, and the delicate balance between entertainment and artistry. His set for this event, inspired by skating fashion and the venue’s vibe, mirrored his evolving musical journey. “I don’t think I’ve found ‘my sound’ yet,” he admitted, highlighting his passion for exploring genres and tailoring his performances to match the crowd's energy. His love for DJing comes from the intimacy it creates with the audience. Marco, who’s transitioning from frat DJing to performing at larger venues, draws inspiration from tech house legends like Odd Mob, Genesi, and SIDEPIECE. His evolving approach to DJing is a creative endeavor that continues to shape his sound and style. His set proved just that.
Tolga, the headliner of the night, shared his story and how his journey intertwines with music, fashion, and personal identity. “Starting, it was all about playing music I loved and hoping people would vibe with it,” he said. Over time, he crafted not just a sound but a world—one that is authentic to him and resonates deeply with the crowd. His style, which he describes as “effortlessly intentional, with a touch of rebellion,” mirrors his identity, fusing timeless fashion pieces with the energy of his music.
For Tolga, fashion is like music—a balance of timeless pieces that set the tone, just as the right track can shift the crowd’s mood. Inspired by icons like James Murphy and Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, Tolga views music as storytelling, aiming to create moments that connect deeply with his audience. As he prepared for the Greenwood event, he promised a performance that would be “raw but refined,” embodying the same effortless confidence as his favorite worn-in jeans—a staple that feels custom-made for him.
The combined efforts of the DJs set the tone for the event, effortlessly merging fashion and music. The music flowed as the models walked through the crowd, creating an atmosphere that left everyone wanting more.
