Frizz, Sweat, and Smudges—Oh My!
As April rolls around, getting ready for a day of heat and moisture is frustrating…is it even worth it? The humidity will inevitably be at its worst as we wrap up the school year. Adapting your beauty routine to combat the heat and sporadic April showers is necessary for Tulane students. Over the past few years, I’ve found that the more lightweight and airy I feel, the better. Because of that, I tend to alter my makeup routine as the semester ends.
Embracing a Soft Focus:
This Spring is all about soft pastels, which instantly gets me dreaming about a pastel pink blush! With skin tints, makeup is far more breathable, creating an ethereal look. The “your skin but better” approach is the key to matching this season’s fashion trends: linen pieces, breathable sets, and adorable midi dresses I’ve spotted all over campus. Think buttery yellows and sage greens. Luckily, the beauty world has moved away from “cakey” and overly complicated formulations and brought back simple and reliable products—perfect for a New Orleans spring day.

Base That Stays
I typically ditch the heavy foundation during the warmer months and stick to a skin tint. Saie’s Slip Tint Tinted Moisturizer is my all-time favorite, with SPF 35 that makes it great for the daytime, with a more sheer finish. I like to mix the skin tint with Saie’s Glowy Super Gel in Sunglow for a more glowy look. The combination is exceptionally lightweight and creates a beautiful finish that stays intact throughout the day, running in and out of class, taking a walk in Audubon, or sitting poolside at The Chloe. For even more coverage, Hourglass’ Veil Hydrating
Skin Tint does the trick, especially for an evening makeup look. This product delivers much more coverage, similar to a traditional foundation, while feeling breathable. For areas that need extra coverage, Tower 28’s Swipe Serum Concealer offers a unique skincare-infused formula that is easy to apply on the go.
Blush That Lasts
Though I love a good cream blush, it can melt quickly. Kosas’ Baked Dimensional + Brightening Blush has passed the test. The packaging is beautiful, and there are a plethora of shades to experiment with. The blush is extremely buildable and creates such a gorgeous “dimensional” finish, mimicking a natural flush in a more controlled way!
Lock It Down
Say no to raccoon eyes. A newfound favorite mascara of mine is Caliray’s Come Hell or High Water Tubing Mascara. I love tubing mascara and have not seen many water-resistant ones on the market. The mascara has a lighter consistency and coating than others I typically wear, but I love how much it holds throughout the day; no smudges. Another Caliray product I’ve been obsessed with happens to be their bestseller: The Surfproof Setting Spray. This stuff is the ultimate summer setting spray. It’s dewy and smells like you just came back from the beach. I was shocked at how well it worked after just a few quick sprays. But my favorite must be One Size Beauty’s Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray. With a consistency that almost reminds me of hairspray, I was a bit apprehensive at first. The mist shields absolutely everything, but it can feel heavy. Though I would not recommend this for everyday wear, it’s a must for significant events.
Humidity doesn’t have to be the enemy of good makeup. Luckily, these radiant and breathable formulas work perfectly with our ever-changing climate challenges. Remember that in New Orleans, embracing dewiness isn’t just practical but perfectly on-trend for Spring!
